Major Change to ScienceDirect Resource in CUFTS Knowledgebase
Because of changes in the way Elsevier is providing its data, it is no longer possible for us to maintain a master list for this resource in a form that will allow your local holdings to be retained.
In order to bring local holdings up to date, it will be necessary for each library using ScienceDirect to make a local resource:
STEP ONE - Create a new SD entry in CUFTS
1. Login to CUFTS Maintenance Tool
2. Select Local Resources
3. Use the New Resource link
4. Fill in the following:
- Name: ScienceDirect
- Provider: Elsevier
- Type: Fulltext journals
- Module: ElsevierLocal
- ERM: only link if you are using the ERM component of CUFTS
- Proxy: check
- Dedupe: optional
- Rank: optional
- Active: check
Under Services:
- Database: check
- Fulltext: check
- Journal: check
5. Submit
STEP TWO - Download your library's SD holdings
1. Go to http://admintool.elsevier.com
2. login using your ScienceDirect admin username and password
3. Go to the ScienceDirect tab
4. Choose Electronic Holdings Report
5. Check off Subscribed/entitled titles
6. Click on CSV-Download File
7. Save the file *without opening it*
STEP THREE - Upload to CUFTS
1. Return to the CUFTS Maintenance Tool
2. Select Local Resources
3. Select the Bulk link for the SD Resource you created in Step One
4. Use the Title List upload tool to upload the file you saved in Step Two
5. Report any error messages to researcher-support@sfu.ca
That should be it. From now on, whenever you have any new resources from ScienceDirect, repeat Steps Two and Three.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

Open Access and Free Journals Collections in CUFTS update
The open access and free journals collections in CUFTS are growing, both in number of titles and in collections! There are now more than 6,000 open access and free titles available through reSearcher, an increase of about a thousand since the last update in August 2008.
The CUFTS Free! Open Access Collections Group has added more than 200 hand-picked titles in the past few months. New collections have been made available thanks to the commercial sector (EBSCO's Greenfile, Nature Publishing Group Open Access Archive), the hard work and dedication of SFU Library Staff, such as Faith Jone's hand-created Canadian Historic Newspapers list, and Christine Manzer's expert work on the J-Stage list, society publishers (BioOne Open Access), Athabasca University (ICAAP), and open access publishers such as Hindawi.
As a default, BC ELN turns ON the open access and free collections in CUFTS for all BC ELN non-COPPUL libraries. If you would prefer NOT to have open access and free collections turned on as a default, please contact Heather Morrison, BC ELN (non-COPPUL libraries). COPPUL and other reSearcher libraries, contact Kevin Stranack.
A full list of open access and freely available collections is available at:
http://www.eln.bc.ca/view.php?id=1129
The Open Access and Free Collections are available as an A to Z list, MARC records for free download, and downloadable tab-delimited or .csv files are available for most title lists.
