Axiom

The Axiom interface uses a client side cookie to determine whether an OpenURL link should be included as part of the citation display. This means that in order to invoke the Axiom interface with GODOT links, you must use a new URL.

You will also want to request that the icon you wish to use for the link be loaded on their server (required because they use 'https'). Please send the request to thea.holmes@iop.org. The icon they use by default is one for SFX. Its dimensions are 19 pixels high and 53 pixels wide. The dimensions of your icon should be similar (at least not much wider). See these godot button images for icons you can use.

  • To create the new URL go to
    http://axiom.iop.org/create_sfx_url.

  • For 'SFX Server URL' type: http://godot.lib.sfu.ca/GODOT/hold_tab.cgi

  • For 'name for window', type a string that only has alphanumeric characters or underscores. Do not use spaces as they cause Netscape 4.6 (and maybe other browsers) to crash.

  • You will want to choose larger width and height values than are the default. I am using width=700 and height=450 as this works reasonably well on our public workstations.

  • For 'Expand SID?' choose 'yes'.
  • Click on 'enable'.

  • Switch your current link to Axiom to the one used for the 'Link' link. It will look something like (remove linefeeds first):
    http://axiom.iop.org/?BASE-URL=http://godot
    .lib.sfu.ca/godot/hold_tab.cgi&Redirect=
    axiom.iop.org&name=Where_can_I_get_this&width=
    700&height=450&toolbar=yes&dbsid=
    yes&alttext=Where%20can%20I%20get%20this%3f&
    menubar=yes

There are two cookies that get set, one is the standard OpenURL cookie and the other is the customization options cookie. They both expire after 6 months. This means that a user could later use the regular Axiom URL and unless they had since cleared their browser cookies, they would continue to get the OpenURL links.
